Bordering the Western South America coast and the South Pacific Ocean, between Chile and Ecuador, Peru is slightly smaller in area than Alaska and with a population of over 26 million.  The majority of the people are Roman Catholic, speak Spanish, Quechua, Aymara.  The ethnic makeup is 45% Amerindian; 37% mestizo (mixed Amerindian and white); 15% white and 3%, black, Japanese, Chinese, and others.  Peru is vulnerable to such aatural hazards as: earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding, landslides, and mild volcanic activity.
