Our secure server is located at the Cyberian Mall - - If you are using Netscape, this solid, unbroken blue key located in the lower left hand corner and the solid blue line above shows that you are in a secure area AND it is safe to order with a credit card:  Secure Commerce Server technology encrypts your order information, keeping it private and protected.  You can enter your credit card number directly onto our order form and feel secure. We store your credit card information in a stand alone computer system,  (usually for less than an hour in most cases) and it is not connected to the internet or any other networks.

Why Internet Credit Card Transactions Are Safe
Mostly because of media hype and the high tech nature of the internet, the World Wide Web makes many people uneasy.
Keep in mind that these are the worst case scenarios for the paranoid, they are not likely to happen, and someone physically stealing your money is safer for the criminal than credit card fraud.  First let's examine the facts and the risks involved in ANY credit card transactions starting from the most traditional so you see why the internet is the safest way for making transactions:

In Person
You hand your credit card to someone in a restaurant.  They go into the back room to validate it, or give it to yet a different person to validate it, they call a center, that person now has the information.  The restaurant manager at the end of the days sees it, as does the accountant.

Snailmail or Postal Mail
The first obvious disadvantage is that it can take anywhere from 4 days to 4 weeks depending on which part the world you are in and where you are mailing it to.  Believe it or not, the United States has one of the best postal systems on the planet, but a significant percentage of mail still gets lost.  Once recieved, several people will see this hard copy of your credit card informatino before it is processed and kept on record:  1) the mail room people 2) the data entry clerks 3) the people doing the validation 4) the credit card company 5) the bank.

Faxing Your Order
An estimated 5% to 10% of all faxes are lost.  Other people in the office, yours or theirs can see your credit card information. Afterward, look at the process above to see what happens next.

Phoning in Your Order
Probably the most dangerous of all... you have no idea who you are talking to and you cannot see them.  Most scams are in fact done over the phone these days.  Even with the internet, you can see the products you are buying and see from its setup if its a poorly constructed site and/or a scam.

EMail
Sending your credit card information too is not secure.  Others can see it, and if you share passwords, others can get to it.  First off, never choose the name of you or your significant other, or the words: sex, money, love, god.  And, always change your password monthly using both letters and numbers, for example, my passoword is TIGER88 -- just kidding -- chances are your emails can get lost too, every 1 in half a million or so do get lost, and there is no harm there, unless it is misdirected and ends up in the  wrong person's hands.  How often have you gotten someone elses email?  It have never happend to me in 4 years.  So who could see it?  Your internet provider (Bell Atlantic, UU Net, AOL, Compuserver, AT+T)?   These billion-dollar companies rob you other ways, but not by credit card fraud.  So, in effect even sending by email thru a server that is not secure is still safer than most forms of transactions.  What is completely safe then? NOTHING... what comes close?

SECURE SERVER:  This is a special type of encryption software that scrambles your information into something completely unreadable to someone reading it.  For example, the word "the" will look something like Ex3n:T, using both upper and lower case letters and number and symbols, literally making it millions of possible combinations.  This information can only be read with someone who has the electronic key to it.  That electronic key sits on the secure server, and no one can get to it because of the software and hardware firewalls.  In addition, it is kept in a place on the server which is not accesible via the web.  Once the information is there, it is retrieved and deleted.  The person in charge of validating the credit card either dials directly into a computer, or the computer dials another computer and your credit card is only "seen" by two computers talking... no human, thus the temptation of stealing it is removed.

The fact that someone has a secure server should put you at ease for several reasons:
1)
Someone had to of spend tens of thousands of dollars for the software and hardware to make their site safe, it is not typical of a fly by night operation to invest any money.
2)
They do not just hand this software out to anyone even if they have the money.  The people applying for the secure server have to have an excellent credit record and must be officially incorporated.  All legal documentation of this must be provided, and it has to be deposited into a business bank account.
3)
YOU THE CONSUMER have rights!  If you did not make a charge, or the services or product was not provided to you, you can dispute the bill with the credit card company.  They act as the law and the jury, and they are on your side.
4)  Lastly, no company wants to be in bad standing with the public and the banks.  Too many instances of bad reports from consumers can lead to that company's being declined an electronic certificate renewal and/or the banks and credit card mercant account people will revoke their account.
