General George Washington

1st President of the United States
(April 30, 1789 to March 3, 1797)

Known as the Father of our Country, he was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, and died on December 14, 1799, at Mount Vernon in Virginia.   He was married to Martha Dandridge Custis (born in 1732 and died in 1802).  He had 2 adopted children, John "Jack" Parke Custis and Martha "Patsy" Custis.  He was Episcopalian and had no formal education.   He was a member of the Federalist.
