Gianni Versace

1946  - - -  1997

"I am happy, and every day I say, thanks, God, life is beautiful."

Although born poor in Calabria in Southern Italy as the son of a seamstress, he became a famous designer and gained a fortune of $800 million.  His fashions would sell for as much as $20,000.  Versace was murdered early one morning by a serial killer at his home in Miami.  His killer, 27-year-old Andrew Cunanan, a homosexual prostitute, was the subject of a nationwide manhunt on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, and was suspect of 4 other murders.  Cunanan was found a few weeks later dead on a boat of an aparent suicide, all may have been triggered from a possible HIV AIDS diagnosis.  Versace had designed for pop singer Madonna.  Although he was bi-sexual, he was very discreet.
