Richie Valens

The first of several Latin Rockers of the late fifties and early sixties, Richie Valens started playing guitar as a child. At Pacoima High, near LA, he formed his first band the Silhouettes. In the spring of 1958, Valens signed with Del-Fi Records and later that year had a top fifty hit with "Come On, Let's Go". In 1959 Valens hit #2 on the charts with his two sided single "Donna / La Bamba". Valens appeared on national television and in package tours. During a winter tour, which included Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper, the three men were flying from a show in Clear Lake, Iowa when their planed crashed shortly after take off and claimed the lives of all onboard.
