With a big, booming set of pipes, Don Steel is the furthest thing from an Internet geek. This linebacker-turned disc jockey-turned internet personality is indeed something of a geek. Every week he hosts The Roughstock Country Countdown music show at Roughstock and at his Top 40 Countdown website. With the advent of Steel's show, country fans who have enjoyed the Roughstock Country Countdown for years can now listen to Don counts them down every week.
While Steel presents a formidable persona, he's nevertheless a self-proclaimed pussy cat. This was not always the way, however. Having three children seems to have mellowed out this ex-college linebacker and turned him into an introspective -- though extremely extroverted! -- man of many talents. Try to one up him or out wit him and you'll lose. He's quick on the ad-lib and cranks out bang on impressions of celebrities ranging from Arnold Schwarzenegger to the entire cast of the Muppets! (Check out his rendition of "Rainbow Connection," as sung by Kermit The Frog. It would even fool Miss Piggy!)
Don's many years in the radio business has seen him go from hosting the overnight show on a multi-cultural station, to morning man at, what was then,the fastest climbing dance music radio station in all of Canada! But, in his words, he's "always ready for the next opportunity and I thrive on challenge! Give me the square peg and I'll find a way to fit it into the round hole."
