Elvis Arron Presley

January 8, 1935  - - -   August 16, 1977

Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, he began his music career in 1953 and became a international sensation by the late 1950s. He soon became known as the King of Rock and sang popular styles such as country and western, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and gospel. the United States Army.

You cannot reflect on the 1950s and not imagine hearing an Elvis song playing in the background.  He was one of the first pioneers of Rock 'n Roll and was popular into the 1970s.  Even today he is emulated though thousands of impersonators throughout the world, especially in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Elvis Arron Presley was born with a twin, Jessie, who died shortly after and it always haunted him.  Elvis loved his mother very much and was very depressed after she passed away.  He was drafted and served in the US Army and made many Hollywood films.    

He was married to Priscilla in 1967, whom he met while stationed in Germany and they divorced in 1973.  They gave birth to daughter Lisa Marie, who married pop star Michael Jackson, but later divorced.

His later years were spent performing in Las Vegas and he died at the age of 42 due to heart failure, later found to be drug related, he had a dependency of a prescription drugs and dozens were found in his system the outopsy revealed.  Ironically enough, he received the badge of a narcotics agent from Richard Nixon.    

50,000 mourners came to his funeral was which had a white Cadillac hearse and seventeen white Cadillac limousines.  Elvis was polite, generous and had an electrifying presence.  Every year, fans come to his home in Graceland to pay tribute.
