Fond Farewell
Selena Quintanilla Perez
April 16, 1971 - - March 31, 1995
A Mexican-American born in Texas, she was simply known as Selena. The beautiful Tejano star won a Grammy and was often described as the Mexican-American Madonna. But she was as popular with the Spanish audiences as she was with the English-speaking ones and even produced an English crossover album that was destined to launch her further into fame with both the Spanish and English audiences. She was a happy person and enjoyed her marriage to Chris Perez, the lead guitarist of The Dinos, the band created by her farther. Her life was tragically cut short when she was shot twice in the back at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi by her fan club president, Yolanda Saldividar. Yolanda was produced with evidence that she was stealing money from Selena and also had a past history of stealing which was not found out until after it was too late.
Selena, only 23 at the time of her death, was survived by her husband, mother, father, brother, sister and grandfather. A foundation has been setup in her honor and its mission is to motivate children to stay in school, live moral lives, have family values, have respect for human life, and to sing his or her own special song.
