January 15, 1929 - - - April 4, 1968
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was among the most articulate, well-educated, humble and courageous men in history and also won the Nobel Peace Prize. He is best remembered for pressing eduction and civil rights. Even still, often he was misunderstood. He was shot by gunman James Earl Ray in the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tenneessee, and later died in St. Joseph's Hospital. It is often speculated that the assasination was a conspiracy. In 1983 US President Ronald Reagan honored Martin Luther King as the first minority to be honored with a national holiday.
