John F. Kennedy, Jr.

November 25, 1960 - - - July 17, 1999

Born in Washington, DC and son of the late assasinated President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. John Jr. or "John John" was known as one of the more responsible and gentlemanly of the Kennedy family and has often been compared to his late father.  Nothing made a nation's heart cry more then when John Jr. at the age of 3 raised his hand to his head to salute his father at his funeral.

Peeking out from under his father's desk in the White House as a child,
later commented during the Clinton Impeachment Trials,
"I was under that very desk 35 years ago, and I could tell you
there's barely room for a 3-year-old."

John Jr. took  his bar exam to become an attorney several times before passing and was involved in politics.  He was also the founder and editor of George Magazine, a political magazine named after the first President of the United States.   He even visited Cuba on a private trip on the 35th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis that had caused his father a very stressful 2 weeks as the world watched for possible World War III.

He had dated Hollywood actress Daryl Hannah which was very high profile.   He later met Carolyn Bessette, a Calvin Klein Public Relations executive.  In 1996 they were married and he broke the hearts of many women since he was considered one of the world's most eligible bachelors.  They lived in downtown Manhattan free of security guards and always being polite and keeping their cool when bombarded by the press and cameras.  He always addressed the most controversial questions with a quip and great sense of humor and was in fact a very humble person. It was often thought and hoped that he would return to the White House as President of the United States one day.

On July 17, 1999 a personal plane that took off from the a small suburb airport in Caldwell, New Jersey and headed toward Martha's Vineyard where they were to attend a wedding.  When they did not show up the next morning, the Pentagon had the Coast Guard sweep the Atlantic Ocean up to Martha's Vineyard in Massachussetts.  The search was later joined by the Massachussetts State Police and Navy.  The passengers of the small plane were John, his wife Carolyn and her older sister Lauren (pictured below).  They found their luggage with their name on it floating in the water and 5 days later they found all 3 bodies 115 feet down at the bottom of the ocean floor in the plane that had crashed.
