Smileys, ASCII Hyroglyphics all indicate facial gestures and emotion.
While they may vary, these are basically the most common and universal.

Things that Harm us all:
Cursing - There are so many ways to express oneself... its really out of place and only encourages more FCC regulations and monitoring of chat sessions. Be cool. Violent or antagonistic netiots (internet idiots) are best ignored... they are only encouraged when you respond, they are loosers, do not become one of them.
Chain EMail - If I were to suffer all the bad things threatend if I did not forward chain email, not only would I have been dead a thousand times, it would have happend years ago. If you send chain email -- DO NOT complain about lousy provider service or reliability of the internet... because you are the one who helps to clog the system slow it down, and over load the servers with this garbage. Forwarding jokes are fine -- but chain email is globally catastrophic on all levels.
Websites that are adult in nature should have a warning page AND a link to go somewhere more tame like a search engine or a useful informational page to educate others. Specialized interest websites are just that... so keep it special, and turn away those in a polite way that may be easily offended... again, let us be responsible, before someone like the FCC does it for us.
