Eudora Light 3.01 & 4.0 EMail
www.qualcomm.com or www.eudora.com
The best, easiest and most popular POP email client. We do recommend Eudora 3.01 over the more recent 4.0 version. While 4.0 has voicemail, 3.01 has an easier interface. This displays your in, out and other categorized mailboxes all in the same screen. It has sounds a pleasant brief tune when your mail arrives and you can see a letter icon on the Windows 95 task bar located at the lower right hand side of your screen (typically). The setup is easy and even allows for HTML coding, two signature files and encryption coding for added security and privacy. It allows you to sort your mail in the mailboxes by date, size, person, and subject. About the only thing we really did not like about Eudora is the fact that it automatically downloads attached files, which we all know is not safe if its from an unknown recipient. It would be nice to have the option to download later or first "see" who it is from, especially if you are in a hurry and don't want to wait for 10 minutes to read the rest of your mail before the file downloads.
Eudora 4.0 is great if you have multiple email accounts (work, school, home, etc.) it will check them all at once. It also has features like "applying a personality" for applying your signature to that particular email, which will vary from work to home to school. The one drawback of this is that it tends to "HTMLize" meaning it is not plain ASCII text, it inserts the code for colors, styles, font size, etc. This could be cumbersom reading for the person without these special features. Eudora 3.0 remains our favorite default email program over all others.
