The Holiday Celebration of Patriot's Day

Patriot's Day, celebrated the third Monday in April, commemorates the Battle of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts.  The Revolutionary War on this site on April 19, 1775.  It ended in Yorktown on October 19, 1781 when Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington.   Tge formal treaty ending the war was not signed until 1783.

The legend and hero, Paul Revere,  rode 16 miles from Olde North Church in Boston to Lexington announcing the coming of British soldiers.  The Minutemen (Colony Troops, who could be ready for war with the British at any time of day or night in a minute) and the Britis confronted each other and while no one knows who fired the first gun, it was known as the shot that was heard around the world.
