1867  R.H. Macy's department store in New York City remained open until midnight to catch last-minute shoppers. The store took in a record $6,000.
1948  For the first time ever, the Christmas midnight Mass was broadcast on television from St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.
1948  The first solar-heated house was occupied in Dover, Massachussetts.
1981  NY Yankees Star Reggie Jackson announces that he would join Gene Autry's California Angels.
1985  Cuban Communist President Fidel Castro announced he would no longer smoke the world famous cigars his country produced to set an example for his people to pursue better health.
