1953  Los Angeles, California becomes the 3rd largest city in the United States.
1962  The International Typographical Union Strike closed 9 New York City newspapers.
1963  Frank Sinatra Jr. idnapped in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and released 4 days later.
1980  Musician/Actor/Writer John Lennon assasinated by an insane gunman outside his home in Manhattan.
1982  The FCC gave approval for WOR-TV Channel 9 in New York to be moved to Secaucus, New Jersey, giving Jersey its first VHF television station.
