1848  The first medical school in the US for women opened in Boston, Massachusetts.
1950  2 Puerto Rican radical nationalists attempt to assasinate US President Harry S. Truman.
1950  Charles Cooper of the Boston Celtics became the first black man to play in the National Basketball Association.
1968  The movie rating system (G, M, R, X, and now PG-13 and NC-17) was inagurated.
