1794 The last independent territory divided between Austria, Prussia and Russia, ceasing to exist. In 1918 the Poles y regained their independence after World War I, only to be taken away again in 1939 by Nazi Germany and Russia. In 1944 Poland is re-established as a Communist republic of the Soviet Union.
1945 The United Nations formally established just one month after the end of World War II
1962 The Cuban Missile Crisis takes place when US President Kennedy tells the Russians to back off loading missles into Cuba.
1989 Popular TV Evangelist Reverend Jim Bakker is sentenced to 45 years is prison and fined $500,000 for 24 counts of fraud.
