1818  Great Britain and the US agree to establish boundries between the US and Canada along the 49th parallel, stretching from Lake of the Woods in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west.  They also agree to joint occupation of Oregon territory for 10 years.  That arrangement was extended for another 10 years. In the 1830s and 1840s, American expansionists urged seizure of Oregon and in order to avoid more conflict with the US, Great Britain agreed to give up Oregon.
1968 Former First Lady Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy married Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis 5 years after her husband's assasination (US President John F. Kennedy).
1973  The Sydney Opera House opens in Australia
