1933  Newsweek Magazine hits the newsstands originally as News-Week.
1933  Dr. Albert Einstein moves to Princeton, New Jersey from troubled homeland Germany.
1945  Actress Ava Gardner married bandleader Artie Shaw.
1989  An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale shakes Candlestick Park during the Baseball World Series in San Francisco. While all were safe in the stadium, outside in the city it cause 270 deaths, thousands of injuries, and $3 billion in damages.  If it had not been during rush hour, more would have survived.
