1982  President Mohammed Ali Rajai of Iran, along with Prime Minister Javad Bahonar are killed by a bomb planted inside Bahonar's office.
1983  US Air Force  Lt. Colonel Guion S. Bluford is the first African-American in space when the space shuttle Challenger lifts off for its 3rd mission.
1995  NATO planes begin bombing Bosnian Serb targets around Sarajevo and is the largest military operation in NATO's history
