1939  General Pershing Zephyr railroad car was the first equipped with fluorescent lights.
1939  Public Television began and President Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first chief executive to appear on TV where he spoke at the opening ceremonies of the New York World's Fair in Flushing, New York on WNBT, now WNBC-TV.
1947  Boulder Dam changed back to its original name of the Hoover Dam.
1964  FCC ruled that all television sets should be equipped to receive both VHF (channels 2-13) and the new UHF (channels 14-83).
