1789  The crew of the Bounty mutined against Captain William Bligh.
1932  A vaccine against yellow fever was announced
1945  Benito Mussolini and his mistress were captured and executed by Italian partisans.
1947  The voyage of the Kon-Tiki began with 6 men sailing from Peru aboard a balsa raft for a 101 day trip across the Pacific Ocean.
1952  The war with Japan officially ended when a treaty was signed by the US and 47 other nations.
1957  Television's most respected newsman, Mike Wallace was seen for the first time on the Mike Wallace Interviews
1967  Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) refused induction into the US Army, his world heavyweight crown was taken away from him as a result though he said were based on religious grounds.
1986  The Soviet Union finally admitted the diaster of Chernobyl.
1987  For the first time, a CD (compact disc) of an album was released before its vinyl LP album, The Art of Excellence by Tony Bennett, it was his first recorded work in a decade.
