1836  Congress established the territory of Wisconsin.
1832  Hot Springs National Park becomes the first national park in the US, established by an act of Congress.

1985 British pop group Wham! became the first to release cassettes in the People's Republic of China.
1999 A high school in Littleton, Colorado became the scene of the largest mass shooting in United States history when two teens who called themselves the "trenchcoat mafia" began firing guns and bombs in the school, killing over 25 people.  They specifically targeted minorities and "jocks" before turning the guns on themselves as over a hundred police, FBI and swat team members swarmed and surrounded the building.
