1961  Soviet Yuri Gagarin becomes the first man to fly in space and orbit earth before landing.
1964  Singer Chubby Checker marries former Miss World Catherina Lodders.
1981  The first NASA Space Shuttle, Columbia, launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
1985 Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Baily Circus were busted by federal inspectors when they declared that 4 animals were not unicorns, but goats with horns which had been surgically implanted.
