1827 Baltimore & Ohio Railroad becomes the first railroad incorporated for commercial transportation of people and freight.
1993  US Federal agents had a showdown against David Koresh's armed religious cult in Waco, Texas.  4 Agents were killed along with 2 cult members.  This event went down as an infamous failure.

1940  A Madison Square Garden basketball game featuring Fordham University and the University of Pittsburgh was televised on W2XBS... Pittsburgh won 50-37.
