1911  The first old-age home for pioneers opened in Prescott, Arizona.
1932  Dog sled racing first appeared in Olympic competitions.
1971  US NASA Astronaut Alan B. Shepard did some golfing on the surface of the moon.
1981  The former Beatles members, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison to record a tribute to assasinated band member John Lennon.  The song, All Those Years Ago, reached #2 on the pop music charts for three weeks and was recorded on George Harrison's own Dark Horse label.
1985  The French mineral water Perrier debuted.
