1940  Ida Fuller of Brattlesboro, Vermont recieved the first Social Security check for $22.54 issued by US Government.
1958  Explorer I becomes the first US earth satellite, launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
1985  Musician John Fogerty returned to A&M recording studios in Hollywood to give his first live performance in 14 years.
1985  The Jeep, a World War II indispensible vehicle, came off assembly line at the AMC plant in Toledo, Ohio.
