1559  Queen Elizabeth I was crowned in Westminster Abbey, England.
1777  New Connecticut declares independence and later becomes Vermont.
1943  Work completed on the Pentagon
1955  The first solar-heated, radiation-cooled house built by Raymond Bliss in Tucson, Arizona. $4,000 was spent on materials and labor to build the entire home. The price today would be at least 100 times more.
1973  US President Nixon announces suspension of all offensive action in North Vietnam.
