1885 Dr. William Grant of Davenport, Iowa performs the first successful removal of an appendix (appendectomy).
1950 RCA Victor announces it will manufacture long playing (LP) records.
1957 Collier's magazine was published for the last time.
1965 The Fender Guitar Company sold to CBS for $13 million.
1979 The Star Club reopened in Hamburg, Germany. This is one of the places that the Beatles first played in their early days. None of the former members were able to attend the reopening.
